Morbid Angel - Illud Divinum Insanus - Review

Alright, fans of this band have been waiting for this album for a very long time, and most of them are pretty ticked off it seems. They've went for a different theme for this album. They even added some Industrial elements to the music.

Well I personally have no problem with Industrial themed metal, but this album left me pretty much dead in the water. There are a few good tracks, "Existo Vulgore"  "Blades for Baal" and "Nevermore" are pretty fucking awesome. And to a lesser extent "I Am Morbid" But I confess the fake crowd chanting "Morbid" came off cheesy as fuck.

I mean come on lets be honest, this album is a let down for sure. Fans have been waiting since 2003 for some more awesome death metal from this classic band, but this is not the come back they needed to make.

Cons?

1) Poor song structure and lazy drumming
2) Cheesy ass lyrics
3) Omni Potens was just a fucking pointless intro, did it really need to be over two minutes long?

Pros?
1) Some solid riffing
2) Vocals are pretty tight

This album asked one question, Am I Morbid? No I guess I'm not.

Dimension F3H - Does The Pain Excite You? - Review

Well first off I'd like to thank everyone who voted for this album, always makes me super fucking happy when you guys vote for something I personally love! Kudos you crazy fucks! 


Does The Pain Excite you? Is an album I've known and loved since it was released in 2007. They play a VERY unique mixture of Trash/Industrial and a hint of some other stuff in the mixture as well. This band is pretty hard to classify so I'm not going to attempt to do it myself. But It's be called "Kickass Bladerunner Thrash" Which is very fitting with the Industrial and Electronic elements used on this album. 


Some of you should already know the man behind the helm on this album is none other than Morfeus, formerly of Limbonic Art and more recently a session member of Mayhem. So it's no surprise that this album kicks a lot of ass right? 


This is a ten track affair clocking in at just over fifty minutes in length and the first thing your going to hear is the track "Babylon" Which is a pretty straight forward metal track with more than enough riffs to break your neck too. And some very interesting synth work here as well. 

Then they change it up completely with the next track, "Cyberqueen" Which is one of my favorite tracks on the album. This track is much slower and methodical in the way it gets you into it,  more of a groove than anything and the effect Morfeus uses on his voice for this track is completely fitting of the song and the lyrics. The track is just a driving force and will no doubt prepare you for the rest of the album. .


Another stand out track for me is "Echochamber" which has an amazing intro with a woman talking, basically apologizing to someone with some amazing sound effects. That leads into a kickass synth part then the track gets starts. It starts off pretty slow but once it gets going it fucking pummels you. Just a badass track and without a doubt my favorite track on the album. I kinda feel a little Sepultura-esque in the riffing on this track, and you know that's not a bad thing at all. 


All in all this is an amazing album, every instrument is played to perfection. Mr Moe is on bass here and he does exactly whats expected of him. and Cato really shines on the drums, that man is truly a beast behind the kit and deserves more attention then he gets. 


I do have a con, just a single con about this album. The track "Pint Point Dead Man Practice" leaves me a little dead in the water. Not that's it's a bad track by any means, but just it feels inferior to the rest of the tracks on this album. And to be honest I'm not really sure what turns me off about it, just never really felt it stood up well next to the rest of the amazing tracks on this album.

Highly suggest this album for any metal fan, esp if your into industrial and electronic infused metal as well. You won't be disappointed with this album I guarantee it.

The Project Hate - Review - Bleeding The New Apocalypse

Alright, Here we are once again for our weekly fan choice review. This week we're review an album by "The Project Hate" and it's their newest work, "Bleeding The New Apocalypse" Thanks to everyone who voted, Except for my friend Zartin, "Who added and voted for Ke$sha" I hate you Zartin! 


I've been a fan of the band for a few years. Their 2003 album, "Hate, Dominate, Congregate, Eliminate" is my personal favorite. They've always had a pretty Unique sound, They play a mixture of, Death Metal, Melodic, Industrial, and they can be pretty thrashy sometimes as well. 


The album starts off with the track "Iesus Nazarenus Servus Mei" Right away when the song starts you know they have changed a lot. They've always had a smidgen of Thrash in their sound but it's overwhelming apparent on this song. They even bust out some obviously Megadeth inspired riffs in the latter part of the track.

Another thing I noticed right away, They have a new female vocalist. And well I don't like her much at all. Their former vocalist, "Jo Enckell" Was amazing and I loved her work. I'm not digging the new female vocalist to much. Jo is just on a whole other level when it comes to talent. It's a shame she's no longer in the band. 


A Revelation of Desecrated Heavens, Kinda feels like a return to form for the band. Really cool stuff going on in this track, Could totally pass off as a extra track from, "Hate, Dominate, Congregate, Eliminate" They even have some sick backwards vocals near the halfway mark. 


All in all though I was pretty letdown by this album. Just not feeling it to much. And with my dislike of the new female vocalist it just puts a stamp on it.


If this is your first time hearing the band you will probably enjoy this album. But if you've been a fan for awhile and you know their previous work you should feel it's a disappointment as well.

V:28 - Review - Violution

I have no words for how kind you guys have been to me with these reviews you've chosen via the new voting system. And I really want to thank you for that. So far you've voted for nothing but stellar fucking albums. "Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga don't count there." I saw you crazy fucks vote for those... 


Anyway. V:28 is an extremely unique and talented band from Norway. My friend Morfeus suggested I give them a listen a few years back and I'm fucking so glad for that. There is no other band out there like these guys. And maybe never will be. 


V:28 is a three piece, and I'd like to categorize their music into a certain sub-genre. But I find that nearly impossible to do. They play a mixture of Industrial, Black, Death, and even some thrash in there to sweeten the deal. Lets call it "The Soundtrack to the Apocalypse" Which is exactly what these guys preach about in their music. 


V:28 released three albums and Violution was the final of the three. They are all concept albums and they all tell the same story. The deconstruction of the planet via war. They've been leading us up to this point with the two previous albums. And trust me, the end on this album is the end for the band as well. 


V:28 followed the concept they had down to a T. When the end of the world happens in the lyrics here on this album. The band themselves disbanded. I mean how could they go on? The world is gone and I don't think a "Reconstruction" Trilogy would sound right at all. 


Songs like, "Desert Generator" "Pattern of the Weak" and "Shut it Down" Are the highlights on this album to be sure. But the entire album is something important. And even though the band is no more the outstanding trilogy of albums they released will always have a spot in my music player. 

They pull out all the stops on this album. They even bring in some guest vocals on this album, like Garm of Ulver, Mike VanPortfleet of Lycia, and Ghost of GGFH. Combine that with the cold and nothingness you'll feel while listening to this album and you'll never ever be sorry you picked up this album. 


They even make use of some awesome samples. One of my favorite shows is a show called "Carnivale" and the final track, "when entropy decreases" Makes use of some amazing sound bytes from the show. My favorite being, "And so it was that the fate of Mankind kind came to rest
on the trembling shoulders of the most reluctant of saviors..." It just really breathes life into the song. And creates a perfect ending to this amazing trilogy they have presented us with. 


Vocals are delivered by, Eddie Risdal. You should know him. If you've been keeping up I interviewed him last month. :) The vocals are done in a really "cold" and "emotionless" Manner. They have a growling aspect, But they aren't really "deathlike" More of a primal screaming. A war cry if you will. And his voice is perfectly befitting this sonic explosion. 


Every member plays their instrument with precision. And some people bitch because they use a drum machine. But that adds something to their music. A real Machine like thumping in the background. It never wavers, never gives up and sits back their emotionless the entire time as the album takes you on this journey..


There are a lot of reasons to love this album. But this album cannot be mentioned without mentioning the two previous albums. NonAnthropogenic and SoulSaviour. Please do yourself the favor of picking up the entire trilogy. it's more than worth it and you can thank me later. 


I've tried and tried and tried to find a con for this album. And I confess I can only find one thing. Some of the samples that are used on some of the songs are a little bit to low in the mix. But lets be honest, If that's the only con that itself is proof of this albums awesomeness.
