Well here it is folks, another album I've been DYING for. This one has been on my wish list since 2009. their 2009 album "In The Constellation Of The Black Widow" is more than likely in my top ten favorites of all time. And I just hope Passion can live up to that epic of an album.
The first track on the album "volenti non fit iniuria" leads us to believe that this album does have the Potential to be as epic as "In The Constellation Of The Black Widow" Very much in the same vein and style. Blasting metal insanity in it's purest form. And to be honest that's one of the reasons I've always loved this band so much. Just fucking insane! The wall of noise they create on this track reminds me of most of their older catalog.
Then we get "drug-fucking abomination" Which could easily pass off as a Dark Funeral or even a Marduk track. Well until the vocals kick in. Then it's business as normal where Anaal Nathrakh is concerned.
But the real "wtf" on this album is the track "tod huetet uebel" They have a guest singer on this track, and while I'm not sure "who" it is. I can tell you he does an amazing job capturing the insanity in the music that Anaal Nathrakh is known for. One thing I can tell you though, this is not your typical Anaal Nathrakh song. That much is pretty certain once you hear it.
All in all this is a really good album. But they have changed it up a little bit, more clean singing on this album than normal and the music is actually "toned down" a wee bit. This album just doesn't feel as "Extreme" as their last album.
The track "paragon pariah" will give you a good idea of what I'm talking about.
Great album but I feel it is somewhat inferior to "In The Constellation Of The Black Widow" Check it out and make the choice for yourself.
King of Asgard is a pretty new band, They've only been around since 2008, They play a mixture of Viking/Death/Black/Awesome Metal. I found them quite by accident on YouTube a few months ago. Saw the video for Einharjar. Needless to say I was very impressed by the track and shortly there after I got my hands on the album.
My first impression was pretty straight forward. Einharjar was an amazing track and I was hoping the rest of the album was at the very least as good as that track.
After a couple spins I can honestly say I fucking love this Album and therefore the band as well. What a fucking way to make a debut! With Powerful guitar, Outstanding vocals, Powerful drums, Deep "audible" and dirty bass lines. Whats not to love?
This is the band you need to look to now for Quality viking themed metal of the extreme variety. It's new and fresh and I'm not joking when i say this band is fucking destroying everything Amon Amarth has done since "With oden on our side" But I am by no means comparing the two bands. Totally different sounds.
The album starts off with an amazing intro titled, "intro" slow and pulsing at 1:31 in length. you know when you hear this track that your in for something special, It just grabs you by the balls and doesn't let go. At the very end of the intro you hear the vocalist scream "Einharjar!" Which leads into the next track.
Einharjar, Is one of the gems on this album to be sure. The track is played at a breakneck speed and is full of amazing emotion. Just look at this clip of the lyrics.
Einhärjar - Die before us one and all
Einhärjar - Chosen to die by the glimpse of an age
Einhärjar - Die before us one and all
Einhärjar - Reunite, we all shall fall
This band is on the fast track to becoming a serious heavy hitter in the genre! Another gem on this album is the track, Day of Sorrow. Performed with such emotion! I just have no words to describe it.
Karl Beckman is on vocals, Performed flawlessly, the singer here is amazingly talented and I've read he's been in a few popular bands. Sadly this is my first time hearing his work. He sings with a throaty, Deathy Growl. Without losing his emotion at all, I guess his voice be compared to Johan from Amon Amarth but really? I prefer Karl's voice without question.
The guitar work is amazing, Melodic in parts, Deathlike in others. and even some Blackened tremolo picking thrown into the mix. They really put an amazing effort into the sound of the guitars and the mixing as well. Perfectly mixed here not one aspect of their sound is lost in the mix.
Drums, Holy shit the drummer is a fucking beast. He's pulling no punches behind his kit. Playing at breakneck speed the entire time. He's an extremely talented drummer.
The bass is ALWAYS audible. God I think my favorite thing about this album is the mixing. Every aspect on this album is perfectly mixed. Nothing gets lost in translation.
All in all this is an utterly fantastic album. Highly suggest for anyone who likes Viking themed metal of any sort. Trust me this album is worth your time!
As a long standing fan of this incredible black metal outfit. I must admit i was very worried
for the outcome of this record. since longtime member of this dynamic duo "Morfeus" is no longer in the band. So basically Limbonic Art is a one man band now.
What worried me about this release was pretty simple. It's what both members brought to the band.
Daemon brought an incredibly voidlike darkness to it. Which is the norm for black metal in general. but he did it with a poetic sense. With his lyrics and his vocals you really felt and believed what he sang on the previous records.
Morfeus was the ying to his yang. He brought a Sense of wonder, enlightenment and overall
amazement to all the albums. With the keyboards and samples he used on the previous records. and that was what set this band apart. and of course there are no Operatic vocals on this record. and they are missed.
While there is no shortness of "dark" or "raw" black metal. what set Limbonic Art apart from
all the other bands in the genre was this mixture. Dark and Wonder all in one package. while keeping the aggression and badassatry. that has been the story for all the previous
Limbonic Art Albums.
So coming into this record i was worried it would be more "raw" and "dark" and a lot less on the
"wonder" I was right, Phantasmagoria is an awesome black metal album. superior hatred. intense rage. all the normal colors of the black metal rainbow. But there was a void in the music.
"and not just the normal void that daemon sings about." but you could tell it was lacking what made Limbonic Art such an awesome band.
Like i stated before this is an awesome black metal album. but daemon tried to add his own version of Morfeus's "wonder" which felt forced. and alien. Because that's just not something that daemon feels inherently.
Now there is a plus side here. Like i said it's a good Black Metal effort. Songs like, Crypt of Bereavement, and, a World in Pandemonium. Give you a hint of the "old" Limbonic Art. But it's just not enough really. I give Daemon credit for trying, but it just comes off as forced.
Personally i think Daemon should never have continued without Morfeus. it's not the same band in any way shape or form. and i hope he does not make another record under the Limbonic Art name.
Anyway, while this album is worth a spin. DO NOT go into this expecting the same sound from the previous records.
This interview was truly a pleasure. Morfeus has been in some heavyweights of the Norwegian scene. Originally a member of the dynamic duo that was, Limbonic Art. And more recently a session member of the legendary, Mayhem. He is also the mastermind of the band, Dimension F3H. a band commonly referred to as, kickass bladerunner thrash. And the title fits!
Support his bands, and be sure to check them out live when they tour near you!
Shawn: Good evening Morfeus, and thanks for taking the time to do this Interview, How's the weather over there in Norway? Good drinking weather?
Morfeus: Evening Shawn!!Any weather is good drinking weather you know, but today it fucking snowed so bad over here, it’s pissing me off!! I had hoped we had seen the end of the snow this winter, but apparently Immortal is sitting on some mountain top casting blizzards our way!!
Shawn: You've been in the Norwegian Metal scene for a good while. So what do you think about today’s Norwegian scene? It came a long way since the Original wave of Norwegian Black metal.
Morfeus: To be honest, I don’t really notice a scene in Norway anymore, I don’t know, perhaps we all grew older and don’t really have a need for it. It’s more like a ton of friends and bands we know that exist and work to make music. When I hear the word scene, somehow it makes me think of a competition in some way, and I don’t really like that. I think most people up here on this northern rock are very supportive to each other, and perhaps could be seen more as a community rather than a scene..
Shawn: With your Previous work in Limbonic Art, and now being a session member in Mayhem, You've been a part of some major history in the Norwegian scene. And the past two years you've been doing a lot of touring with Mayhem, Has this been enjoyable? and how have hardcore Mayhem fans treated you?
Morfeus: Yeah, it’s been a few years with lots of ups and downs, hehe.. Tho these last three years with Mayhem have been amazing to say the least. Lots of traveling around the world and of course a ton of great gigs!! This was one of the most important things that I missed about Limbonic Art, the ability to do live shows, so at the moment I’m perfectly happy with the situation. Of course I’m just a session with Mayhem as of yet, so for now I’m not really noticed that much, but the fans that I do meet seems generally happy with it, and I haven’t really heard anything negative, so I guess that’s a good thing at least..
Shawn: Also what are some of your more Personal Inspirations? Be it music, Novels, Movies? and also what was your main inspiration for Getting into music in the first place?
Morfeus: Well, I don’t think that I have any really specific inspirations. I’m trying not to be too visual in the way I write, I think that I’m more just searching for sounds and melodies that work, and when I finally bump into something that tickles my spine, then I start to focus on that and to develop that further. I do enjoy books and not to mention comics, movies etc, but I try not to influence myself from other media so to speak. It has happened of course, but I try to avoid it, and just let the music come from feelings rather than anything else…
Shawn: "Dimension F3H" was originally suppose to be a solo project, what convinced you to make the jump to a full fledged band?
Morfeus: Dimension F3H started out in the beginning with the intent of just being an ambient/electronic side project to Limbonic Art. There were some things that I felt that I was unable to incorporate in LA, and that kinda drove the desire to do something else. In time that just developed, and in the end I couldn’t keep my fingers away from the guitar, started incorporating some riffs here and there, and then the ball just kept rolling from there..
Shawn: You have had a few line up changes in Dimension F3H, you even took over vocals duties for the second album, So can you say your content with the line up you have right now?
Morfeus: Yeah, there’s been quite a few changes through the years. Mostly drummers been the problem tho. At the time when Stian from Pagan’s Mind was still in the band it was natural to have also their bassplayer Krokmo in the band as he was available and willing. After Stian left the band then he too disappeared, but Endre was already kinda in the gang and friends with us, so it was natural to ask him. After that there’s been a few more drummer changes, but at the moment it looks rock steady. I’m not saying that there won’t be any changes at all tho, there might be something brewing in the background, but, nothing specific yet…
Shawn: You've been rather busy since you Released Dimension F3H's Full Length, "Does the Pain Excite you?" With touring and other things. So when can we expect a new Dimension F3H album? or is work already underway on it?
Morfeus: Well, there are tons of shit going on at the moment, of course Mayhem is my first and foremost these days, but DF3H will always be in my head in some way. We have to sort out some label situations, and find out where to go. Musically we have a lot of material written, just need to find the best songs and the best way to do it all. I HOPE that we will start recording properly sometime this year, but it will depend a lot on inspiration, energy, time, etc etc… The most important thing is to get the music done, and then see where it will take us..
Shawn: Dimension F3H, has been described as, "Kickass Bladerunner Thrash" and in my opinion it fits the music perfectly. Did you set out with an idea of the sound you were going to create, or did it more or less form itself?
Morfeus: Hehe, yeah, I kinda like that description actually, it fits us very well I think. Maybe even more so now than when it was pinned on us. I didn’t set out to make bladerunner thrash tho, as I said in the previous question, it was supposed to be ambient shit, but it just ended up in that general direction in the end. Well, the end, it’s still forming and shaping itself, it will always do that..
Shawn: So what do you do outside of Music? Pastimes? Hobbies?
Morfeus: Well, I do too much.. Hehe.. Internet, chatting with people, photography, building guitars, movies, music… just too much that entertain me, so.. I’m hardly ever bored.. hehe
Shawn: Which do you prefer, Ozzy era or Dio era black sabbath?
Morfeus: I’ve never really been that much into Black Sabbath that I really care much.. I like them both..
Shawn: Well that will conclude our interview, Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions. and if there’s anything you would like to add or share feel free,
The final word is yours!
Morfeus: The epic final words… well, just keep it up Shawn, thanx a lot for the interview, and stay tuned for more kick ass bladerunner thrash!!!!
Well, I've been waiting for this album for awhile now. You all should know Demonaz is a founding member of Immortal. He writes most of the music and lyrics, there but doesn't play live anymore. So this is his solo effort, and if I'm honest i was a tad skeptical about this release. Mostly i was worried it would just be a new Immortal album under a new name.
Well i was wrong, and i was right. This album takes a lot from Immortals newest work, that's without question. But he infuses the music here with something a little more. you can hear a serious Bathory influence here in the music. and i guess the best way to describe it would be to say, This is Immortal meets Bathory.
The vocals are more, "Thrashy" or "Motorhead" ish at times. If i had to pinpoint a sound i'd say his singing voice here sounds like he took the best parts of Lemmys vocals and mixed them with Chuck Billy's vocals to create a single sound here. "if your a complete noob and don't know Chuck Billy is the vocalist from Testament"
I'm not sure I'd classify this as a Black Metal album, It's got quite a few different sounds here. A little black, Pagan, Viking, Thrash, Hell even a straight up classic rock solo on the track "Over the Mountains." He pulls from a lot of different resources for this album. and honestly? it works. Lets just call it Awesome Metal! As i said earlier, i was skeptical about this album. but the final product has won me over. I highly enjoyed listening to it. and I'm sure it'll be in my normal album rotation for awhile to come.
Tracks like, Legends of fire and ice, All blackened sky, and March of the norse. are probably my favorites off the album. but really the whole album is well worth a listen and it deserves to be bought! Great album from start to finish, this will satisfy any immortal fans until the next album. and fans of Bathory will also wanna grab this album. you'll enjoy it.
